6A – Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Economic Trends

A) I found this article on Forbes. This article talked about a household fryer that uses air to fry food. Its simplicity and easy functionality are what makes it seem so appealing on the common marketplace. Reading this article, I came up with the idea that an opportunity exists for a healthy alternative of this type of product to exist. A household product that makes açai is what I think would be an appealing product of this nature.  https://www.forbes.com/sites/curtissilver/2019/09/17/things-not-to-air-fry-in-your-air-fryer/#15b98418e271
B) Reading this information, I realized that this simplicity of having this product at home would make it very appealing for people to buy. Instead of running to a store to get an açai bowl and spending significantly more money, people can make a homemade bowl.
C) The prototypical customer would be a millennial in their early to mid 20s. This is generally the marketplace for this type of food.
D) I think this opportunity would be relatively easy to exploit. The market for healthy food has been recently booming, with multiple spots around universities and big cities such as Los Angeles, New York, and Miami opening up.

I saw this opportunity because I'm from Los Angeles and seeing how successful the amount of healthy restaurants are, I decided to capitalize it with my own idea.

A) I found this article on Quartz at Work. This article talks about how the advancements in technology with 5G data will allow for huge advancements in ones ability to work at home. This brings up great points that in the future it will be tough to gauge what a workplace actually is in the future. Because of these advancements, I've come up with the opportunity to create a company with jobs whose employees solely work at home. https://qz.com/work/1707685/how-5g-will-transform-our-ability-to-work-from-home/
B) Reading this article, I've come up with this opportunity solely based on the potential success revolved around the simplicity and comfortability that this presents. The goal is to create as much employee satisfaction as possible and company success will follow.
C) The prototypical customer would be a millennial right out of college.
D) I think this opportunity would be hard to exploit. There would need to be some sort of incentive tied into this idea but if it succeeds the results would be amazing.

I saw this opportunity based on the fact that I enjoy taking online classes over in person classes at the University of Florida. I find myself to have more success when I'm able to make my own schedule.

Regulatory Changes

A) I found this article on Boston 25 News. This article talks about the recent regulations that the city of Boston is placing on its citizens regarding vaping amid the outbreak of nicotine among teenagers nowadays. The first step is to ban flavored nicotine pods. My opportunity is to create a similar sensation to vaping with flavored nicotine. I feel as if gum would be the best solution to this. https://www.boston25news.com/news/boston-cracks-down-on-vaping-with-changes-to-tobacco-nicotine-regulations/987771870
B) Reading this article, I've come up with this idea based solely on the fact of the amount of friends I have that are addicted to nicotine flavored vaping. Having a healthy alternative of this would be a great way to capitalize on this market.
C) The prototypical customer would be a millennial right out of college, as they are usually the ones juuling.
D) This opportunity would be easy to exploit. A healthy alternative to a product that's insanely addicting would be easy to capitalize on.

I saw this opportunity based on the fact that a lot of my friends are addicted to juuling and other forms of vaping. It really disgusts me and I want them to stop so I'm motivated to finding a healthy alternative for them.

A) I found this article on the LA Times. This article talks about President Trump planning to revoke a critical California environmental power based on emissions from cars. Based off this and the potential backlash that president Trump will face from this, I've decided to capitalize on making a form of transportation that makes no gas emission. Some form of scooter is what I would do. https://www.latimes.com/environment/story/2019-09-17/trump-revokes-california-environmental-authority-auto-deal
B) Reading this article, I've come up with this idea just because I'm from the state of California and I know how passionate the state's citizens are to be environmentally friendly. Because of the regulations that Trump plans to revoke, I believe that creating some sort of environmentally friendly form of transportation is a great way to capitalize on it.
C) The prototypical customer would be people from all forms of ages, anyone who is environmentally friendly.
D) This opportunity would be easy to exploit because of the amount of people who are environmentally friendly in California.

I saw this opportunity based on my experience of living in California and knowing how passionate some of the people are to be environmentally friendly. Also the state of California as a whole and most of the people I know are anti-trump so it would be easy for people to come aboard my opportunity.

  1. Jordan,
Your opportunities show a good variance of ideas. Your vaping idea about creating flavored gum to replace the vapes is an intriguing idea. I can see how the flavored vapes are set to take a huge hit and people will be looking for a way to satisfy their needs. This could be a huge market that could rapidly increase. Your other ideas are interesting as well but that one in particular stands out.

  2. Dear Jordan,
All of your opportunities are great because they range from each type of civil enviornment. I personally have an air frier back home in South Florida, and it does a great job. What caught my attention the most is the enviornmental power regualation being shut down by the president. It should be interesting being that California is truly an 'enviornmental first' type of state. Overall Great post!
