7A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1
1) An opportunity I'd like to pursue is a application based program teaching people how to use current forms of technology.
2)
Who) People who struggle with technology and how to use it, specifically foreigners who don't understand the native language of the country they're in.
What) People who struggle to adapt to the technology that is currently being used in today's world.C) Why: In order for technology company's market share to grow, they need a growing percentage of potential customers. The main reason they're missing out on so many potential customers is because people don't understand how to use their products. This opportunity would bridge the gap and solve this solution.
3)Testing the who) Although my opportunity is meant towards foreigners who struggle with adapting to their new country's language and culture and thus lack the understanding of using technology, it can be applied to anyone.Testing the what) Because of the fact that this opportunity is powered by technology, it will be limited in the fact that people with little or no understanding of technology will find it hard to go through it. The hope is that they learn from scratch through a step by step program and thus are able to do everything advanced by the end.Testing the why) There are multiple reasons why this is needed. First of all, technology companies need this in order to gain thousands of new potential customers. Second and most importantly, the people who this is geared towards need this program badly. With technology rapidly advancing, these people will be left behind and not be able to adapt to our recent advancements if they are unable to understand how to use them.
4)
I've interviewed five different people. I believe that my opportunity would benefit each of these five people in one way or another. Four of these people happen to be members of my family while the other one happens to be my family friend who recently moved to Los Angeles from Israel for college. I asked multiple questions concerning my product and how they would use this. Each of them had nothing but positives to talk about the product. They believed that the product would not only help them assimilate with their technological products, but it would help them assimilate to America in general. I stated to them that the product would be available in any language and would teach them the technological language of the current home country that they're in. This was their favorite feature of the product, as they believe that the product would help them understand the language. They encouraged me greatly to continue to implore ideas on the product to make it become a reality.

Jordan,
ReplyDeleteYou have an interesting hypothesis that you are exploring. I can definitely see how people that are not from the US have a hard time using technology here, but that is something I have never thought about. I have never had to experience this problem but I can only imagine having to learn a culture and then having to learn the technology as well. It could be difficult to keep an application up to date with all the new technology that comes, but it is an interesting concept.
Dear Jordan, while the idea of helping people who lack technical ability may be helpful, the idea of doing it on an app seems a little bit counteractive, because an application is a piece of technology that many people without technical skills may be unable to access. One potential alteration that may improve the success of the product would be to advertise it in sources such as newspapers and hold an in person session. This may help attract a specific group of people who could use help in this area.
ReplyDeleteHey Jordan,
ReplyDeleteI find it very admirable and significant that you picked such a challenging opportunity to pursue. I had a hard time coming up with ideas to combat global problems, and I think you definitely have the right mindset when it comes to those lacking the necessary technology skills. I'm inclined to like your app idea, mostly because they're easy to use and can be accessed anywhere in the world. However, a lot of people from foreign countries that have a hard time with technology don't own or sometimes even have access to phones and computers that your app could potentially be on. In all honesty, I like your thought process and I applaud you for trying to tackle such a huge problem.
This is a great idea, I feel like a lot of people could benefit from this. For someone being from South Florida this would benefit a large portion of people who live down there. Daily I meet people who struggle with every day communications or activities. The only thing I see with it is a lot of the people don't own sophisticated enough technology or don't own any at all. Overall great post!
