Dear Jordan, I think it was great that you were able to use your existing social capital to make connections through your father. I think talking to people who already know somebody you know well is a useful way to get in touch with new individuals because they are more likely to listen and even help you out. Your finishing point that targeting people that are experts in a field is much more efficient that finding all the information yourself makes sense to me.
